Most progressive law enforcement agencies use psychological testing for
screening applicants. In addition, national accreditation standards require
psychological testing for many special duty assignments. LESI® professionals
have significant experience in assessment of police officers, deputy sheriffs
and correctional officers as well as non sworn personnel (e.g. telecommunicators).
The LESI®assessment process generates a psychological evaluation
based on a battery of tests and a one-on-one interview with a psychologist.
Topics covered in the evaluation include:
- Background data
- Personal impression and presence
- Intellectual characteristics
- Vocational preference and attitudes
- Emotional characteristics
- Specific areas of concern
- Overall probability of success in law enforcement
The validity of the LESI® battery is assured through the establishment
of the LESI® selection database. This database currently contains
data from more than 70000 administrations of this battery in law enforcement
agencies of varying size. The data has been correlated with hiring practices
in several agencies and can be shown to be non-discriminatory in regard
to race and sex. The LESI® assessment program conforms to all current
standards issued by The American Psychological Association as well as
the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
